Scope supports Women in Tech

Sarah Gusman from the Customer Success team, participated in the panel discussion ofΒ  The Women in Tech event, sharing her experiences and views in the industry.

Scope believes that flexibility empowers their employees and helps prevent mental stress for working parents. As one of the main sponsors of The Women in Tech event by Times of Malta, Sarah Gusman, Customer Success, participated in the panel discussion, sharing her experiences and views on various hot topics in the industry.

The decision to enter the Middle Eastern market was not made lightly. After thoroughly looking into the potential of the market, co-founders Brian Ferris and Neville Micallef recognised that over the past few years the region has really come into its own through impressive market growth, enticing fiscal reforms, and exciting investment opportunities that have created an ecosystem that is highly conducive to businesses. All this combined provided a compelling reason that made the region the perfect destination for the next step in Scope’s growth.

But this venture was inspired by more than just attractive policies. That’s because the UAE and wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) marketsΒ  are also experiencing a paradigm shift in their business landscapes, as more and more enterprises are awakening to the tremendous value of integrating technology into their financial operations. This growing recognition opens up a world of possibilities for Scope, as the team brings its expertise and leading solutions to meet the evolving needs of Middle East-based businesses.

The panel discussion, held at The Brewery on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, covered a wide range of topics, including the need to increase educational awareness for girls to choose STEM subjects from a young age, the evolution of family dynamics that support such encouragement, and the importance of equality at home, sharing family responsibilities equally. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) is one of the industries that can offer flexibility and remote working, yet it remains male-dominated.

Sarah Gusman, Customer Success at Scope, mentioned, “Technology helps me work efficiently and remotely around my family schedule. I have just returned to full-time work after my maternity leave, and the forward-thinking culture and system at Scope have enabled me to stay connected with my colleagues, helping me get up to speed upon my return. Flexibility, trust, and empathy at Scope empower me to be who I want to be – a professional at work and a dedicated mom at home.”

Flexibility is crucial, and the technology that supports it was the key topic Sarah Gusman focused on. Cloud Solutions offer a wealth of flexibility, blending well with the needs of working parents. Organizations that have transitioned to reliable and secure business operations thanks to cloud-based apps have ensured an efficient and smooth continuation of their management, as their employees can work efficiently remotely using mobile devices such as smartphones and laptops.

Trust and empathy are essential. The traditional fixed working hours from 8 am to 5 pm do not fit well into the modern work-life balance. Employers need to trust their employees and provide them with the latest tech tools and apps to work remotely and at the time that best suits their family needs. Certain rules must be in place for this flexibility to be sustainable, with certain hours required for the call of duty, especially when managing specific clients.

Scaling up is crucial, and SAAS products (Cloud Solutions) help organizations, especially startups, maximize their resources and efficiencies. In a world where time is the most challenging resource, especially for women juggling multiple responsibilities, such technology is a game-changer.

Ultimately, we need to provide support and remove any pressures for a healthy daily life,” explains Neville.

Putting their words into action, Scope has developed a “Life at Scope” program for their employees to assist and enhance their work and life balance, with mental and physical well-being at the heart of this initiative.
