Wired for work, fueled by wanderlust: Sadin’s story at Scope

13 minutes to read

It’s the ultimate dream for many: the freedom and flexibility to travel the world without burning through your annual leave, worrying about strict company policies, or putting your paycheck on pause just to make it happen.

At Scope, we’re proud to make this dream a reality for our people. Just ask Sadin, one of our team members who’s been working (and adventuring) from all corners of the globe, while staying fully connected to the Scope team for the past few years. The reason why we support this is simple. It’s because we believe that when our people feel fulfilled in their personal lives, they achieve more professionally.

Sadin joined Scope back in 2017, nor did he have any direct experience working as a cloud solutions specialist. But after a few conversations, it was clear that Sadin and Scope just clicked.

“I’m a qualified accountant, but after eight years in the Practice, I realised I needed a change from being an accountant,” Sadin recalls. “I was looking for something different, but I didn’t really know what I was looking for.”

That’s when an Accounting Ninja job ad on LinkedIn caught his attention. “It wasn’t even the role itself, but the way that it was presented that intrigued me. Scope made the job sound fun and cool, something different. I was curious to learn more about the company.”

Not your typical job application story

Sadin’s first call with Scope co-founder, Brian, wasn’t your typical job interview either. It was an exploratory conversation about life, books, travel, and interests. And while the job he had originally applied for had already been filled, the possibility of a new role was brought up during the conversation. They stayed in touch and a few months later Sadin became an official Scoper.

“I liked the team, I liked the energy. So, I seized the opportunity. Even though cloud computing was pretty new to me, it felt like an exciting journey. In the months that followed, I shared my first-hand experience as an accountant to guide the team on what features our software needed to include to really make accountants’ jobs easier. Simultaneously, it was a great crash course for me to learn the possibilities and power of cloud computing.”

Work, wander, repeat

While Sadin was immersing himself in his career at Scope, his passion for travel never really left him. Born in Nepal, he had already studied and lived in London, and had visited plenty of countries over the years. But it was during a challenging time that a silver lining appeared, giving him his first real chance to combine work and travel.

“My first real taste came during COVID, when I travelled back to Nepal to be with my family. During this time, I worked remotely with Scope for several months,” Sadin shares. “At first, it was challenging with the time difference and finding the right balance, but then it became a rhythm, and it worked really well.”

Since then, he’s made it a point to spend a few months working from Nepal each year. What’s more, together with his wife, they’ve ticked off numerous dream destinations from their bucket list, travelling everywhere from Albania and Spain to Morocco, Jordan, Mauritius, Australia, and more.

Sadin’s also an avid hiker. “Having grown up in Nepal, I’m used to walking for hours. It’s freeing, peaceful, and my meditative space,” he says. He’s trekked to Everest Base Camp (5,3640m) and has his sights set on Kilimanjaro next.

“I like that I can work all day and then head out to explore the cities and villages I’m visiting in the evenings and weekends. That’s the energy I look for when working remotely, being able to see new places and feel inspired without compromising my work. So long as I have a laptop and internet access, I can work from anywhere.”

The secrets behind remote work success

As Sadin explains, it’s a mutual level of trust that makes the remote working work so well at Scope.

“Brian, Neville, and the entire team trust me to deliver results, and that trust motivates me to give my best and follow through,” he says. And that’s really the heart of it. There’s no strict 9-to-5 structure. It’s about outcomes, not clocking in hours. As long as the work gets done and the goals are met, there’s flexibility for all Scopers to adjust their working hours around different time zones or life plans.

Even with his global lifestyle, Sadin stays fully connected with the team. Weekly team meetings keep everyone aligned, and updates are shared regularly so no one feels out of the loop. Whether someone is starting a new project or needs help, there’s always someone ready to jump in and support.

“We have different tools to stay in touch,” Sadin explains. “There are different tools for voice and video calls, and we use weekly team meetings and chat channels to keep conversations going. So even if I’m far away, I never feel disconnected.”

He also points out that for new joiners, the key is building that trust. “Show the team that you can deliver consistently and to a high standard. Once you’ve proven that, the sky’s the limit really,” he says, “It’s really rewarding to see how far the Scope team will go to support you in living your best life.”
